Get children active Sunday with YMCA's Health Kids Day The YMCA of Oakville is joining its counterparts across in the country in celebrating Healthy Kids Day Sunday (June 7). The national day is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Canadian children. It coincides with the recent release of the 2015 YMCA Healthy Kids Report, which found parents are finding it difficult to set a health example for their children with 85 per cent stating it takes effort to be a health role model, according to a media release from the YMCA. "Children between the ages of six to 12 are at an important stage of their development and this is a key time for instilling healthy behaviour and habits," said Kyle Barber, YMCA of Oakville president and CEO. "While parents may find it difficult to find time in their schedules, our YMCA offers a wealth of family-friendly programs and activities that can make getting active together just a little bit easier." YMCA Healthy Kids Day will be held at the Peter Gilgan Family YMCA, 410 Rebecca St., from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Activities will include: Art in the Park; a dance workshop; family fitness; skatepark; Family Camp and Preschool zones; music lesson demo and live music; basketball tournament; and healthy food workshops and demos.
