Since March, Victoria Raykoff said seven dogs have been stricken with similar symptoms of vomiting, lethargy and lack of appetite, including four in the last few weeks. Three of the dogs died. Raykoff said Maggie got sick May 25. "Last Monday, we noticed she was acting a bit lethargic and we thought it was because it was hotter and maybe the heat was affecting her," said Raykoff. "Then we noticed when she was sleeping she had labored breathing. She stopped eating on Wednesday." Raykoff took Maggie to a veterinarian where blood work showed the dog to be suffering from severe liver damage. While many wore historical costumes, Vania Mirsaeidghazi, 6, donned a blanket, along with her butter y face paint, to keep warm as the cool lake breeze put a chill on the annual event. Shirley Walmsley has spent most of her life in the Oakville hospital -- but not because she's been ill. Walmsley is Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital's (OTMH) longest-serving volunteer, having contributed nearly 5,000 hours of her time over 60 years. In recognition of her work, the 87-year-old local resident received a 60-year service pin at the Oakville Hospital Volunteer Association's (OHVA) annual general meeting on Thursday (June 4). Earlier this spring, she received a Leading Women Building Communities Shirley Walmsley Recognition Award from Oakville MPP and Ontario Labour Minister Kevin Flynn and was nominated for the Town of Oakville's 2015 Community Spirit Award (Senior Award) for her volunteer efforts. "The hospital has always meant so much to my husband and I.
