Jones is the most experienced of the eight-member team. The three-time national champion competed at both the 2007 Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the 2011 Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. "It's an honour to be selected to represent Canada at the Pan American Games in Toronto. I have competed at two Pan Am Games (2007 and 2011) and finished fourth at both events," Jones said. "I'm excited to have another opportunity to step up onto the podium and claim a medal." Jones also competed at the 2012 Olympics in London, where he finished 25th, and at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, where he was 11th. The Oakville native is looking forward to competing in Toronto. "To have this opportunity at a home Games makes it that much more special. Having family, friends and people that have supported me through my entire career on the sidelines watching will be a unique experience that I look forward to," Jones said. The men's triathlon race will be held in Toronto July 12. Jones, who now lives in Milton, won an International Triathlon Union Pan American Cup race last July on the course that will be used for the Pan Am Games. Young Wildcats rally to beat Blakelock in Tier 2 baseball final by Jon Kuiperij Beaver Sports Editor With half of its players still in their first year of high school, the White Oaks Wildcats baseball team took a little bit of time to hit its stride. Once the Wildcats settled in, they got on a roll that carried them to their second Halton high school baseball Tier 2 title in three years. White Oaks rallied for a 7-6 win over the T.A. Blakelock Tigers in last Thursday's championship game at Glen Abbey Park, scoring two runs in the seventh and final inning. Andrew Locke -- the lone Grade 12 player on the Wildcats squad -- drove home the tying run and then scored the winner on a hit by Grade 9 student Nick Ivanchenko. "Our team has always managed to never give up," said White Oaks head coach Chris McKinnon, who carried seven Grade 9 students on his 14-player roster. "As games progressed, we seemed to get stronger." The same could be said about the Wildcats' season. Through three games, White Oaks was 1-2, with the win coming via forfeit. The Wildcats followed that up by winning 12 of their next 13 games, including five straight victories to claim a tournament hosted by Burlington's Nelson High School prior to the Victoria Day weekend. "We just started sailing along," said McKinnon. "Our Grade 9s were really talented players, some of whom play elite-level ball. They aren't overly intimidated."
