At home, on July 17, 2001, after a lengthy illness faced with courage and dignity. Born in London, Ontario, on November 2 ,1 9 2 9 , to the late A.I. and Audre Walker, John w ill be forever loved and deeply missed by his wife of 48 years, Margaret, as well as by tiis daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren: Barbara, lan.'Caitlin and Merryn Renshaw of Oakville, Ontario; Jane, Louis, Phillip and Andrew Pisters of Houston, Texas; and Katherine, Peter, Kevin, Erin and Meghan Pisters of Houston, Texas. Dear brother to Anne Hayman and her husband, Robert. Cherished friend and physician to many whose kind support motivated and sustained him throughout his life and, latterly, during his illness. John graduated from the U n ive rsity o f W estern O ntario's M edical School in 1953 and pursued a diverse career in Internal Medicine. He completed p ost-g ra du ate tra in in g in London, T oronto and London, England. He returned to Victoria Hospital, London, in 1960, where he was a member of the Active Teaching Staff and Deputy Chief of Medicine from 1978 to 1984. A popular clinician and lecturer, John thoroughly enjoyed his role as teaching medical students, and was delighted to receive, in 1995, the award of Professor Emeritus of Medicine at U.W.O. In addition, John developed a full clinical practice and served as Vice-President and Medical Director of the London Life Insurance Company, from which position he retired in 1992. For many years, he was actively involved in the Canadian Medical Association and the Ontario Medical-Association. Aside from his professional accomplishments, John was a devoted cottager for 25 years at Kerrydale on Lake Muskoka arid for the last twelve years, on Lake Kawagama, where he pursued a life-long enjoyment of boating, sailing and swimming, and of course, taking Margaret fishing. He particularly enjoyed sharing the cottage experience with his grandchildren, and many friends who were glad recipients of John's cottage hospitality. John b en efited from e xce lle n t m edical care th ro u g h o u t h is battle w ith m u ltip le m yelom a, g e n e ro u sly p ro vid e d by ca rin g and talented colleagues in the health care field.
