Wednesday, August 15, 2001 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT Paintings, sculptures and pottery featured in art show There is only one week left to view the inspirations and creations of some o f O akville's accom plished and emerging artists, all under one air-conditioned roof. An art exhibition by members of the Oakville Art Society (OAS) will continue Mondays to Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Aug. 22 in the gallery at 560 Bronte Rd. The OAS gallery members' sum mer show features landscapes, florals, abstracts and figures in mixed media, watercolours, oils and acrylics as well as some pottery and sculptures. Artist Mary Jean Mailloux is one of many of the artists whose work will be showcased in this exhibition. Mailloux is an Oakville resident who has worked in the commercial art field for 25 years and recently decided to renew her interest in fine arts. She was trained at the Ontario Col lege of Art and L'ecole des arts d'coratif de Nice, as well as by private tutors. She paints in several media, but prefers watercolours and oils. Mailloux works out of her home studio, en plein air and at the OAS. Her subjects vary from florals to the human form in action. Micheline Likas, another artist in the show, is a potter. She specializes in teapots and other functional pieces designed and constructed from clay. Likas loves to sculpt add-on pieces to enhance her works. She has been potting for 26 years and has worked in the OAS studio and taught classes to both children and adults for the passed 14 years. Other artists in this members exhi bition include Joyce Kellock, Ed Boyer, Peri Jolley, Sabine Keevil, Gordon Hare, Dawn Seeley, Krisztina Lantos, Helen Hendry, Joyce Reynolds, Marguerite Broten, Sharane Gilbert, Dorothy Wilde, Gunta White, Mae Giroux, Cornel Silversides, and Paiva de Carlvalho.
