After opening the OPDL season the previous week, Oakville's girls and boys' under-13 teams returned home for their first games on home turf. The girls blanked Kleinburg Nobleton 7-0 while the boys scored a 4-1 victory, also over Kleinburg Nobleton. Both teams' next home game are Saturday, June 4 against Athlete Institute at the Pine Glen fields. Mississauga Oakville Blue Devils scored at the final whistle to salvage a 2-2 draw against North Mississauga SC in League1 Ontario soccer action last Sunday. "We're just disappointed, really disappointed," said Oakville head coach Duncan Wilde. "We are playing really well in spells and then very, very poorly in other spells. We cannot find our game rhythm; we cannot find our consistency. " Oakville scored early when Braden Culver slotted home a cross 33 minutes in. North Mississauga scored twice, however, at the 64- and 70-minute marks to take the lead. The reigning league champion Blue Devils managed to tie the game on a last-gasp tally by 2015 Golden Boot winner Felipe Vilela at the 90-minute mark. The point was Oakville's second (0-1-2) of the young season. The week before the Blue Devils tied Windsor Stars 2-2 after a season-opening 1-0 loss to FC London. Oakville, currently sixth among eight teams in the Men's West Division, is back in action on Sunday, May 29 when it hosts Toronto FC Academy at 3 p.m. at Sheridan College Stadium. Jr. B Buzz falls a goal short in loss to Halton Hills The Halton Hills Bulldogs broke a 9-9 tie with a pair of late goals and held off the Oakville Buzz for an 11-10 win last Friday. The Buzz erased a 9-7 Halton Hills lead on goals by Marley Angus and Matt Anderson but the Bulldogs answered back with 4:37 to play in the third period and added an insurance marker with 1:09 remaining. Austin Redding's shorthanded goal with 33 seconds remaining got Oakville within one but the Buzz couldn't get the equalizer. Eddie Renaud had two goals and five assists for the Buzz and Anderson scored twice and set up three more. Josh Dawick scored twice for Oakville in his Jr. B debut. Yvon Bolduc had a goal and three assists and Matthew Dilella scored Oakville's other goal. Oakville lost 9-6 to the Green Gaels the previous night. Anderson and Jaden Walcot each had two goals. The Buzz, now 4-3 this season, hosts the Mississauga Tomahawks tonight (Friday). Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Joshua's Creek Arenas. Five OGC gymnasts win medals at E. Canadian championships Five members of the men's artistic competitive program at the Oakville Gymnastics Club brought home medals from the Eastern Canadian Championships in Quebec City earlier this month. Jayson Rampersad, Ireneo Membrere, Evan Smeets, Stefan Van Nierkerk and Logan Brown battled teams featuring top athletes from P.E.I., Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Quebec. The club has recently been building its men's artistic competitive program with athletes moving up the ranks. Podium finishes included: · Jayson Rampersad (Elite 4), silver on high bar and eighth allaround · Ireneo Membrere (Provincial 4, 13-plus), gold on parallel bar, silver on floor and fourth all-around · Evan Smeets (Provincial 4, 13plus), bronze on vault and 10th allaround · Stefan Van Niekerk (Provincial 4, under 13), gold on high bar, bronze on vault and seventh allaround · Logan Brown (Provincial 3, 13plus), bronze on vault and seventh all-around. Good finish for OGC at provincials For most of the OGC boys, the Ontario provincial championship meet in Mississauga last month was an excellent wrap-up to the competitive season. OGC collected 42 medals -- 16 gold, 15 silver and 11 bronze. Three of the OGC boys were Ontario all-around champions: Carlos Ortega-Zarate in Level 1, Erik Pan in Level 2 and Logan Brown in Level 3 (14-17).
