Oakville Buzz edged 11-10 by Bulldogs The Halton Hills Bulldogs broke a 9-9 tie with a pair of late goals and held off the Oakville Buzz for an 11-10 win last Friday. The Buzz erased a 9-7 Halton Hills lead on goals by Marley Angus and Matt Anderson but the Bulldogs answered back with 4:37 to play in the third period and added an insurance marker with 1:09 remaining. Austin Redding's shorthanded goal with 33 seconds remaining got Oakville within one but the Buzz couldn't get the equalizer. Eddie Renaud had two goals and five assists for the Buzz and Matt Anderson scored twice and set up three more. Josh Dawick scored twice for Oakville in his Jr. B debut. Yvon Bolduc had a goal and three assists and Matthew Dilella scored Oakville's other goal. Oakville lost 9-6 to the Green Gaels the previous night. Anderson and Jaden Walcot each had two goals. The Buzz, now 4-3 this season, hosts the Mississauga Tomahawks Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Joshua's Creek Arenas. Fitness instructor leaps into Guinness Book of World Records Ungar shatters old mark with 63.5-inch vertical box jump By Kevin Nagel Beaver sports editor 53 | Thursday, May 19, 2016 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com A boost of adrenalin helped Evan Ungar smash the world record for a vertical box jump Friday at the One Health Clubs facility in Oakville. Ungar, 24, broke the current record of 59.8 inches (set by Justin Bephel in South Carolina in 2012) with a jump of 61.5 inches onto a box, or platform, in front of an audience of 100-150 at the club. For good measure, the Oakville resident hit 63.5 inches on his final effort. That's 1.61 metres in metric measurement. "I think I could have gone higher to be honest but I wanted to leave everybody on a good note," he said. The drive to set the record developed 18 months ago when a volleyball-playing friend suggested he was unbeatable in jumping. It was a boast that backfired magnificently, it turns out. The challenge was on and Ungar excelled. "We checked the height and I was only eight inches away from the Guinness world record, which is significant, but at that mo- ment I said, `I'm going to do it'," Ungar said. "A year later, here we are." Ungar, who is director of personal fitness training at Oakville's One Health Centres on Upper Middle Road, said he has no jump-specific training. "A lot of power movements," he said, but the mental aspect is equally important. "I don't really remember the actual jump itself when I do it." Ungar, who is five-foot-10 1/2, is not even sure of the benefits of box jumping. "It's not a vertical jump, so it's not getting my hands up high, but getting my feet up high onto the platform. The main benefit is strengthening the leg muscles, I guess." Video and other supporting documents will be evaluated by Guinness Records before it's deemed an official record. Evan Ungar celebrates after successfully box jumping 63.5 inches at Oakville's One Health Centres. He broke the four-year-old record of 59.8 inches last Friday with a jump of 61.5 inches minutes before the pictured jump. | photo by Graham Paine Burlington Post minOr Oaks hOckey assOciatiOn pre-tyke prOgram (5 and 6 year olds, 2010/2011 birth years for 2016/17 season) Evaluation Skates September 17-18, 2016 Season starts October 3, 2016 · MOHA play off format new this fall (5 and 6 year olds, 2010/2011 birth years for 2016/17 season) minOr Oaks hOckey assOciatiOn initiatiOn prOgram starting this fall Evaluation Skates September 17-18, 2016 Season starts October 3, 2016 · Gala Day March 5, 2017 players On ice twice/week One game and one practice per week *Program offered to qualified participants based on evaluation skate results* players On ice twice/week Monday-Thursday: Skill development Sunday: Games/practice sessions price $575 price $375 OptiOn tO purchase equipment packages MOHA is a member association of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association and Hockey Canada.
