Run or walk for CMHA at Bronte Creek Park June 17th Saturday, June 17th will be a busy day for the Canadian Mental Health Association - (CMHA) Halton at Bronte Creek Provincial Park. The inaugural 5K Run/Walk/Relay will be held in the morning for serious road runners and walker, and the 4th annual Bike, Hike and Blade takes place during the after noon as a family event. Registration for the 5K Run/Walk/Relay is from 9 to 10 a.m. The race begins at 10:30 a.m. Participation cost is $25, or at least $40 in pledges, or $125 for relay teams or pledges over $250. Event categories include 1st Overall M en's and Women's Open and Masters; 1st Overall Female Team, Male Team and Mixed Team, and 1st Female Walker and Male Overall Walker. Age categories are 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 2029, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 to 69, and 70 plus. Registration for the Bike, Hike and Blade begins at noon for a 1 p.m. start. Participants can run, walk, cycle, bring kids in strollers, and bring the dog. There is a new separate paved course for blading. Cost is $20 or free with pledges over $25. Proceeds from both events go to the Yellow Ribbon Youth Suicide Awareness and Prevention Campaign to be launched in September 2001. Feelings of alienation, rejec tion, hopelessness and pain make suicide the second leading cause of death among 15 to 24 years olds, says the CMHA. For information, call CMHA Halton at 905-693-4268.
