Two Maps of Emeiy is Hutchman' s second book, dedicated to Emery Village, where he grew up, a patch of land in northwest North York. "I felt that I needed to write this history down or it w ould be lost," he said. Hutchman is a writer and poet rec ognized in Canada' s literary circles. He earned a PhD from the Universite de Montreal in 1988, and for the past 30 years, he has been a university professor at Concordia University, the University of Alberta, Western Uni versity and the Universite de M onc ton. He recently retired from teaching. His first book, The First Map of Emeiy , begins with the story of John Graves Simcoe and finishes with the post-war period. The Second Map of Emery details the arrival of families from elsewhere in Canada and Europe and includes Hutchman' s experiences growing up in the area during the '50s and '60s w hen Emery was still covered by fields and forests. "I think that the residents of Oakville will relate to this book about Emery because it concerns the origins and developm ent of a village into a larger urban area," Hutchman said.
