Youths aged 18-26 are being asked to sub m it proposals on climate change solutions as part of the Youth Innovation Challenge, is sued by Cath erine McKen na, Canada's Minister of Environm ent and Climate Change. Three win ning teams will receive $5,000 in seed fund ing, and an invitation to present their ideas to North American environmental leaders in Prince Edward Island, hosted by the Com m ission for Environmental Cooperation. "Pm calling upon all of our youth with a concern for environmental protection in our com m unity to subm it their proposals for this ingenious youth innovation challenge. We are challenging our creative and innovative young people to find solutions to environ mental issu es," stated Oliver, in a m edia re lease. The purpose of the challenge is to harness youths' creativity -- as students and entre preneurs -- to propose feasible and scal able technology and science and business ideas that can further green growth in North America. Proposals should address the following en vironmental and sustainability objectives: · Reducing air em issions · Reducing and diverting food waste · M anaging and preventing the spread of invasive species · M anaging the im pact of marine litter and reducing its sources · Mitigating ocean acidification. Deadline for entries and com m ents is Sun day April 30, while the top subm issions will be selected for refinement on Friday May 5.
