Three teams -- each comprised of four S.I.R.T. officers and a training instructor -- took to the green spaces and wooded areas of the former Saw-Whet Golf Club and Bronte Creek Provincial Park for handson practical training of the new Project Lifesaver Halton, a radio frequency-tracking program launched in Halton earlier this year. With the addition of the 12 officers trained in February, Halton police will now have 45 officers trained in the use of the radio frequency mobile tracking system that they can employ across the region to aid in the search for missing persons. Project Lifesaver Halton was launched Jan. 26. The program, while new to Halton, is already in use in several other Canadian and U.S. cities. The program offers a rapid-response and rescue program to help police locate wandering or missing individuals, living with cognitive disorders such as Alzheimer's or autism, by way of a tracking device.
