An award will be presented in each of the following five categories: Most Successful Start-Up; Education, Training and D evelopm ent; Innovation; C om m unity and Volunteer Contribution; and Global Competitiveness. Employees and res idents of the Halton and Peel Regions are encouraged to nominate success ful business women in their communi ties. Judges from business, govern ment, and community organizations within the Halton and Peel Regions will select winners in each category. Nomination forms for the Pinnacle Awards will be accepted until Mon., July 31st, along with a biography and two-page description of the candi dates' qualifications. Two thousand businesses and com munity centres in the Halton and Peel Regions have received nomination packages including posters, brochures and nomination forms. To go from a home office to a nation wide network of employees in just three short years is a remarkable achievement in any business. In this case, the home-grown success story belongs to Byk Canada Inc. of Oakville, the Canadian division of German-based Byk Gulden Pharmaceutical Group. Having recently completed an expan sion of its offices on North Service Road, Byk Canada now employs 50 people at its Oakville headquarters in addition to a sales force of 120 across Canada. At its inception in January of 1997, Byk Canada consisted of a grand total of three employees working out of the St. Catharines' home of company president and CEO John Suk. Although Byk is a relatively new player in the Canadian pharmaceutical industry, its parent company, the Byk Gulden Group, has had successful worldwide operations for over 120 years.
