39 |Thursday June 1, 2017 | OAKVILLE BEAVER |www.insidehalton.com All-star line-up for July female hockey academy Some of the country's top talent comes to the local girls hockey community this July as Oakville plays host to the Brianne Jenner Hockey Academy. The 2014 gold medalist, and Oakville native Brianne Jenner has confirmed additions to the instructing staff, including Marc Power and Andrew Yap. Power has several years of experience as the head skat ing instructor for the Ottawa Senators as well as the National Women's team. Yap has worked individually on and off-ice with several elite level athletes includ ing junior and professional players, as well as doz ens of the best female players in southern Ontario through his Speed Unlimited Program. "I'm really enthused about the addition of Marc and Andrew, and they round out what is really a National-level quality to this camp", said Jenner. "I trained for several years under the guidance of both of them, and they're just outstanding teachers, and great motivators too." Melody Davidson, Hockey Canada's general manager for the Women's National Team is a clear supporter of Power adding, "Mark's the best there is at what he does. Especially his personality with young female athletes" Former Oakville Hornets champion coach Bradi Cochrane, who also played a role in Jennets own development, along with current and former Hockey Canada players such as Hayleigh Cudmore and Erin Ambrose and Hockey Canada certification instruc torTim Manastersky add an impressive depth. "I established early on that the academy would provide the highest quality instruction. Everything else comes second. And I think we're showing to be serious about that," Jenner added. Programs are open to players from ages 6 to 20, taking place July 10 to 15 at Sixteen Mile Creek Recreation Centre. "We're covering a wide array of players, but through distinctly separate programs," said Jenner who is currently with the Olympic Team at their boot camp in Fredericton, N.B. and will return to Calgary for the pre-Olympic centralization schedule begin ning in August. "For house league and recreational players we have a full-day Academy and Power-Skat ing options, and for rep players and others intent on improving more specific skills or practising at the highest pace we have more specialized programs" Jenner is seen as a two-way creative power for ward on the National squad and will be imparting some of those tendencies. "Naturally you have to adapt to every level of player, but everyone will see an emphasis on game-like decision making, and adding some speed, power and intensity to their game" Jenner, currently an assistant captain with the National Team, a participant in six world championships and several international tournaments along with the Sochi Olympics, has previously captained Team Canada at both the Under 18 and Under 22 levels. Some space is open in the academy. Full in formation on the academy can be found at www. jennerhockey.com or by calling 905-849-9712.
