Over the last month, the employees of Ford put out a challenge to fellow co-workers to dig through closets and wallets, if need be, and donate new or gently-used safety shoes and boots to people in need. Ford, Unifor and the United Way Halton and Hamilton delivered the new and gently- used safety boots to the Threshold School of Building's executive director John Grant recently. The boots will be distributed to recipients and graduates of Threshold's Ready To Work program, which provides a hands-on learning environment that opens pathways into the building trades and promotes a passion for good building. Threshold School of Building is a registered charity that was incorporated in 2001 and serves the community by providing building expertise, laboratories for learning and a forum for sharing new ideas. The United Way Halton and Hamilton has made a commitment to improve lives locally and Ford has partnered to help make this commitment a reality. "We chose the boot drive this year because we wanted to make sure that anyone who is able to work has the necessary tools to do so. We wanted to tackle a project that allowed us to make direct impact where there is a need," said Shauna Canton, Ford's United Way campaign coordinator, in a press release. "We work at aligning community partners with local needs following a solutions based approach. We are interested in making long term, lasting impact that goes above and beyond annual fundraising," said United Way Halton and Hamilton President and CEO Brad Park.
