An Oakville Syrian family had a special audi­ ence of one on March 19, when they met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The meeting was made possible by Oakville MP John Oliver. Ranim, Tarek and Sidra recently settled in town thanks to the sponsorship and tireless support of Ter­ ra Firma Halton, a group of formidable woman who've come together to help those displaced by the Syrian Civil War. Terra Firma Halton has worked with this family to help them assimilate to their new home. "Given its long history of support to the most vul­ nerable populations, Can­ ada had to step up to pro­ vide assistance to Syrian refugees who are facing the worst humanitarian crisis of the past 50 years," said Oliver. "Our national effort to resettle thou­ sands of Syrian refugees in Canada over the past few years is also part of a great Canadian tradition, one embedded in our country's DNA." The Oakville MP also lauded the efforts of his community, in particular Terra Firma Halton. "I believe that no com­ munity better exemplifies this generosity than Oak­ ville.
